WHY NIKOLA TESLA? A Source of Inspiration for My Art

"As an artist, my creative foundation is built on more than just technique or form—it’s rooted in energy, vibration, and frequency, the very concepts that Nikola Tesla devoted much of his life to exploring. Tesla’s spiritual approach to science—his belief in the power of numbers, the interconnectedness of all things, and his perception of the universe as a dynamic field of energy—has deeply inspired my artistic journey. His ideas about the invisible forces that connect all things resonate with my own desire to tap into the unseen currents of energy. Through my paintings, I aim to offer a space for reflection on the deeper vibrations and frequencies that shape our experience".

Who Was Nikola Tesla?

Nikola Tesla, born in 1856, was a Serbian inventor and engineer whose innovations changed the course of modern technology. His work on AC power revolutionized electricity distribution, making it possible to deliver power efficiently over long distances. Tesla’s invention of the "Tesla coil" also laid the groundwork for wireless communication, making devices like radios and smartphones possible. He also had visionary ideas about wireless energy transfer, robotics, and renewable energy, some of which are still being explored today as part of the electrical system that powers much of the world today (Seifer, 1998).

But Tesla was more than just an inventor—he was a visionary. He saw the universe not only as a collection of physical laws but as a field of energy that could be understood through vibration and frequency. For Tesla, science and spirituality were deeply intertwined, and this perspective is what makes him so fascinating to me as an artist (O’Neill, 1944).

The Power of Numbers: Tesla’s Obsession with 3, 6, and 9

Tesla had a deep belief that numbers held the key to understanding the universe, especially the numbers 3, 6, and 9. He referred to these numbers as the "keys to the universe" and used them in his daily rituals. Whether it was walking around a building three times before entering or organizing his work in sets of these numbers, Tesla believed they had a mystical significance (Seifer, 1998).

The idea of numbers as a divine language resonates deeply with me, especially the number 3. In numerology, 3 is a number of creativity, growth, and expression, representing the dynamic flow of energy that connects all things. It symbolizes harmony and balance, but also the unfolding of life itself—where past, present, and future meet. In my art, I embrace the number 3 as a reflection of the natural rhythms and vibrations that govern both our inner world and the cosmos. This influence is most evident in my consistent use of the triptych format, where the three panels represent more than just an aesthetic choice—they reflect the unity of body, mind, and spirit, and the interconnectedness of all things. The number 3 becomes not just a symbol, but a conduit for expressing the flow of energy and the natural cycles of growth, connection, and transformation that shape our existence.

Tesla’s Vision of Energy: The Ether and Beyond

Tesla was a firm believer in the existence of the ether, an invisible medium that he believed filled the universe, allowing energy to flow through everything. Even though modern science moved away from this idea, Tesla’s belief that the universe is filled with untapped energy has stayed with me. He believed that the ether was not only real but was the key to accessing boundless, free energy that could power the world (O’Neill, 1944).

This belief drove one of his most ambitious projects—wireless energy transmission. Tesla envisioned a world where energy could be harnessed from the atmosphere and transmitted wirelessly to power homes and devices without the need for cables or power stations. His Wardenclyffe Tower, an enormous structure built on Long Island in 1901, was designed to demonstrate this principle. Unfortunately, the project ran out of funding and was never completed, but Tesla remained committed to the idea of wireless energy throughout his life (Seifer, 1998).

This belief in energy as a unifying force is at the heart of my artistic practice. When I paint, I see the canvas as a space to bring this unseen energy to life, making the invisible visible. My goal is to create art that resonates with the viewer on a deeper, energetic level, sparking a connection with the world, with the Ether around them.

Energy, Frequency, and Vibration: Tesla’s Spiritual Approach

Tesla famously said, "If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration" (Tesla, 1935). This belief wasn’t just a scientific theory for him—it was the lens through which he saw the world. Tesla believed that everything, from objects to thoughts, had its own unique frequency, and by tuning into these frequencies, we could unlock deeper truths about life and the universe, and even affect reality.

Tesla's inventions were often driven by his desire to harness these unseen forces. For example, his work on resonance, which involved creating mechanical oscillators capable of vibrating at precise frequencies, was directly influenced by his belief that certain frequencies held the power to influence matter. Tesla even conducted an experiment in which his oscillator caused a small earthquake in his New York City lab. Though he stopped the experiment before causing any major damage, this incident reinforced his belief in the incredible power of resonance and vibration (Seifer, 1998).

This concept deeply influences my work as an artist. My paintings are an attempt to capture these hidden frequencies and share them in a way that evokes a sense of connection and healing.

Art as a Medium for Unity and Healing

One of the most powerful aspects of Tesla’s work was his belief in the interconnectedness of all things. He saw energy as something that binds us together, a force that transcends borders, languages, and even time. This belief in unity is something I’ve taken to heart. My artwork is not just about aesthetics—it’s about fostering a sense of togetherness, healing, and shared humanity.

When I create, I see art as a bridge that connects us to each other and to the universe. Through my paintings, I hope to rise above the visible world and tap into the deeper currents of energy that flow through us all. By doing so, I aim to help people feel more connected—not just to the artwork, but to themselves and the world around them.

Tesla’s Legacy: Bridging Science and Spirituality

While Tesla is celebrated today primarily for his technological innovations, his spiritual beliefs were fundamental to his work. His obsession with numbers, vibration, and energy wasn’t just an eccentric quirk; it was central to his view of the universe and the potential of human discovery. Tesla didn’t see science and spirituality as separate disciplines. Instead, he saw them as two sides of the same coin—a means of unlocking the hidden truths of existence.

Tesla’s belief that everything in the universe is interconnected through energy and vibration continues to resonate today, not just in the world of science but in spiritual and metaphysical communities. His pioneering ideas about energy remain influential, inspiring those who explore the intersection of science, consciousness, and holistic approaches to understanding the universe.

Tesla’s Spiritual Influence on My Art

Tesla once said, "My brain is only a receiver. In the Universe, there is a core from which we obtain knowledge, strength, and inspiration" (Tesla, 1935). This reflects Tesla's belief that the answers to life’s mysteries were out there, waiting to be accessed through energy and vibration, much like tuning a radio to receive a signal—and I draw on this belief to create art that resonates on a deeper, energetic level.

Through my creations, I strive to illuminate the energy and Ether that surround us. Inspired by Tesla's principles, my goal is to foster unity and healing through my artwork. Whether it’s through the use of numbers like 3 (Triptych) or the exploration of spiritual topics, my artwork is an attempt to share with the world my personal captures of the universe’s energies—captures that hopefully resonate with so many.

Nina
